Heroic Fire Rescue at Struggling Stratford Blazes
Firefighters saved at least 50 residents of the Stratford complex after smoke and flames engulfed the building. A Mexican immigrant, Gonzalo Gonzalez, helped guide evacuees to safety, shielding babies and old people as he lent aid under freezing temperatures. The Red Cross housed Gonzalez Gomez and another man after the incident. Mothers and infants were rushed to hospital as escape efforts continued.
