Red Tide Devastates Naples Area Killing Thousands of Fish
Naples area endures one of its worst red tide events as vast numbers of fish wash ashore. State Conservation Department intensifies spraying with copper sulphate to combat the outbreak, which has killed more game fish than any other season and extends further south. The culprit, a tiny organism named Gymnodinium brevis, turns water red and poisons fish.
