Hijack Exiles Return to U S After Flight to Cuba
Police escorted the six hijackers in handcuffs to the Champlain border crossing, where they were handed to the FBI amid heavy rain. An immigration agent said the men seemed happy about returning. James W. Boynton of Western Michigan University recalled letters from his son Thomas, a sociologist who survived in Cuba after hijacking a flight from Baltimore to Miami. Thomas faced charges related to diverting the chartered plane, while other relatives described conditions in Cuba and the ongoing family separations as custody and divorce proceedings continued. The return involved multiple family members and a dramatic airport reunion as the group moved toward resolution.
