Administration Sees Integration Without Force
Atty Gen John Mitchell hopes federal authorities need not use force to desegregate public schools after the Supreme Court order. He pledged to deploy all Justice resources if local boards resist, and said deployment of federal troops is not ruled out. The administration will begin desegregation enforcement as the 5th Circuit acts on Mississippi districts and reviews other cases in the Deep South.
