Supervisor Kenneth Hahn urged that at least one uniformed officer accompany all raids by plain clothes narcotics detectives. He spoke after an executive session about a settlement in the Hayward Dyer death suit, where a weapon discharged during a raid killed a Whittier man as his 2 year old son hid nearby.
An immediate Grand Jury investigation was ordered Tuesday into claims by Vernon Brown a county Assessment Appeals Board member that he was shot at near his Baldwin Hills home early Saturday. Brown had sought private appearance before the grand jury, refused to file written complaints, and warned of potential action if not assisted.
The Republican State Central Committee chose Pepperdine University President Dr. William Banowsky as national committee man from California to succeed Ed Mills who resigns to focus on his role as state finance chairman. The panel also urged Gov. Reagan to reject the Assembly reapportionment measure.
