Key officials testifying on Nixon CIA link in Watergate
CIA deputy director Vernon Walters told a Senate subcommittee the President did not directly ask him about CIA involvement in the Watergate break in and that White House aides sought to involve the CIA in the cover up. Helms said he learned of the issue later. Schlesinger denied being asked to testify that McCord had returned to the CIA payroll. Senate committee chair Symington called for answers to why Helms was bypassed in seeking Walters to halt the FBI probe.
