Long Beach infant saved after six hour corrective surgery
A six hour operation saved a Long Beach baby boy born at 12 33 p m on May 33 in St Marys Hospital from a rare congenital condition where the windpipe and swallowing tube were improperly connected. Surgeons opened the chest and created a stomach window for feeding. By Monday the infant showed rapid improvement and began oral feeds every two hours. The pediatrician said the rare case is his second of its kind since 1952 and warned of potential pneumonia or death if not corrected.
