Moluccan gunmen seize Dutch school and train
Two groups of heavily armed South Moluccan extremists seized an elementary school in Assen region and hijacked a four car train near Onnen. About 103 children and six teachers were held at the school with roughly 50 hostages aboard the train. No casualties reported as police surrounded both sites and gunmen made no immediate demands.

Carter OKs $5 Billion Tax Cut Bill In 1977 Law
President Carter signed the 1977 Tax Reduction and Simplification Act into law. The measure will cut 5 billion in direct relief and reduce withholding, effective June 1, helping 95 percent of taxpayers with an average 9.2 weekly decrease for 46 million with a new standard deduction.
