Comic book sex ed vote bans materials in county
San Diego authorities banned a comic book titled Ten Heavy Facts About Sex from Planned Parenthood’s use in exchange for extending a contract with San Diego County. The board of supervisors, in a 4-1 vote, also barred birth control counseling to under 16 dependents. The move drew opposition from critics who called it censorship while others cited moral concerns. Separately, Vernon E. Smith was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Jon Mercer in a drug deal case tied to two other suspects, one of whom was acquitted in a separate military case related to Viet Nam.
