Panel favors state buying of Tahoe land
An Assembly Committee approved legislation to let the state buy environmentally sensitive land near Lake Tahoe despite local officials’ objections. The 10 to 4 vote by the Resources, Land Use and Energy Committee sent the bill to Ways and Means after Assemblyman Eugene Gualea dropped a separate bill for a $40 recreational use fee. The Sacramento Democrat won support from Assembly Republican Leader Paul Priolo by an amendment requiring all three public members of the land purchasing commission be year round Tahoe residents.
