Trophies awarded in Long Beach to Las Vegas air race winners
Cecil O Barker of El Centro won first in a Piper Comanche 250 with 12.4 gallons for the 246 mile run from Long Beach to Las Vegas, scoring 38 percent above par. W Skidmore of Shelbyville finished second in a J-35 Beech Bonanza with 32 percent over par. 488 % Bon Stewart of Los Alamitos placed third in a Cessna 172 with 28 percent over par, using 5.95 gallons. Don Rietdorf of Los Angeles was fourth in a Cessna 172 with 27 percent over par. Thirty pilots started, 15 finished due to weather. The next race is August 20 and sponsors Buck of Garza Grove announced. Trophies donated by Air Oasis and Cessna Aircraft.
