Defense Bill Draft Is Pushed
The House Armed Services Committee prepared to present its military reorganization bill by late next week. Chairman Carl Vinson indicated hearings would end midweek and the panel would finish drafting the measure soon after, though approval by the full House was not assured. The bill would likely include an expanded joint staff and a strong overall defense research chief, with possible tweaks to command authority of the service chiefs. Eisenhower’s broader recommendations were viewed cautiously as hearings concluded.
