GAO finds Labor Dept lax on enforcing federal hiring bias ban
The GAO reports the Labor Department has not fully operationalized its affirmative action guidelines for large federal contractors. In 1974 contractors employing about 25 million workers received over 50 million in nonconstruction contracts, yet compliance reviews were conducted for only one of 13 agencies. Defence and GSA largely approved programs that failed to meet guidelines, and no contract cancellations occurred for noncompliance. Rep. Richard Bolling criticizes the agencies for missing contractor lists and enforcement gaps.
