AMC profits rise as auto maker reports strong half year
American Motors Corp reports 312.96 million profit for the first half of its fiscal year, the best in seven years, with first-half sales at 665.2 million and per share earnings of 49 cents. Second quarter profits reached 6.2 million on 334.2 million in sales, driven by a 34 percent April car surge aided by the buyer protection plan. Analysts credit Jeep acquisition and improved new car demand after a near financial crisis two years ago.
