Vote on Charter Amendment 7 Sparks Education Board Debate
Long Beach residents engaged in a runoff of opinions on Charter Amendment 7 to require filling Board of Education vacancies by election rather than appointment. Opponents argued the plan would waste over $100,000 in school revenues for special elections, reducing educational opportunities and raising taxes. Supporters said appointments keep ballots focused and maintain stable governance, noting similar procedures for other local bodies.
