Mates Murders Charged to Ex Cop and Girlfriend
Police linked former officer Perveler and his girlfriend to a string of alleged crimes. After a volatile history with his first wife Lela, including a double indemnity policy and two fatal or near fatal incidents, investigators gathered new evidence in February 1967. Cromwell, tied to a separate killing and sizeable life insurance payouts, also faced scrutiny as detectives pressed for murder complaints from the district attorney.
