Panama Crisis Triggers Women’s March and Riots
A silent protest by about 2,000 women in Panama led to rioting and looting as National Guard troops used tear gas and fired in the air. Two policemen were injured and two others hospitalized with bullet wounds. The crisis centers on two claimants to the presidency, a Supreme Court dispute, and May elections, with the National Guard backing deposed President Robles while blocking the rival Robles successor.
