Devoted Long Beach figure Willie White Honored for Scholarship Work
Mrs Willie A White longtime Long Beach community leader arrived in 1935 from Oklahoma where she taught grade school for 12 years She helped seven girls from Vernon Ohio obtain college educations Eight scholarships totaling 200 are awarded annually by the Bouggess White Scholarship Foundation She serves as director and the semi annual fund raiser moves to Bryant Drive featuring a Polytech High choral group and a music program The 99 year old mother Ora Spencer lives with her and Mr White died in 1951 The couple are celebrated for race relations and community service in Long Beach.
