A Superior Court judge in Los Angeles refused NBCs bid for a new trial after a 539000 verdict to Loretta Young over a contract clause on rerun intros and closings. The case stems from Youngs claim that NBC violated a 1959 agreement by altering her show in reruns.
A government referee in Los Angeles awarded craft union members at the Los Angeles Herald-Examiner about 1 million dollars in unemployment benefits after hearings that began in 1960. The ruling can be appealed by management. The case stems from the December 1967 strike and alleged lockout of typographers mailers pressmen and others.
San Diego Union reports Mrs. Beard ITT lobbyist was arrested for drunken driving Aug 21. charge reduced to reckless driving with a $200 fine. She was bailed by Norman W. Tolle, president of Tolle Co., with Rep. Bd. Wilson listed as vice president. Wilson says he was unaware. Beard says memo tying ITT settlement to convention funding is fraud.
Albert Rosen of Albert Alros Pet Shop in Miami is charged with cruelty to animals after 34 diseased or dying puppies were found abandoned. Five dogs died after Rosen left for a business trip. 17 were killed by the Humane Society, nine deemed healthy for adoption, and eight placed in isolation. An employee said Rosen fled with about 49 dollars in the till.
