Government expands racial discrimination claims to Georgia and Florida colleges
Washington reports the Department of Health, Education and Welfare raised to ten the states facing desegregation notices in higher education. Georgia and Florida must submit desegregation plans within 60 and 120 days respectively, risking billions in federal aid to public colleges. The action follows prior requests to Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland and Pennsylvania.

Case votes against Carswell for Supreme Court seat
Senator Clifford Case announced his opposition to Judge G Harrold Carswell’s Supreme Court nomination. More than 300 American Bar Association members urged senators to defeat him, calling Carswell unqualified. ABA members, led by Yale Law School's Pollack, said his record shows pedestrian qualifications and prior white supremacist pledges remain relevant.
