California Supreme Court bars dice math in robbery case
The California Supreme Court overturned a San Pedro couple's conviction for a $45 purse snatching, ruling that testimony using probability and dice odds distorted the jury. Justice Raymond L. Sullivan warned that mathematics cannot prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, even in complex cases. The defendants, Malcolm R. Collins and Janet Collins, face retrial on the robbery charge while Mrs. Collins remains on parole.
