Giant Screeder Creates New Lane On Long Beach Freeway
A large automatic paving machine works near Arlesia Boulevard to add a fourth lane each way between the San Diego and Santa Ana Freeways. Paving should finish in early July. The center lanes will close nightly from 6 20 p m to 4 a m for paving.

Nuclear fuel shipment arrives for San Onofre plant
Edison Company reports the first shipment of nuclear fuel for the San Onofre power plant. The 151 assemblies, each with 180 hollow steel tubes, deliver pellets about half an inch in diameter and 10 feet long. Additional shipments will arrive until September, bringing total pallets to 27 million dollars and 157 fuel assemblies.
