House Votes Post Office More Funds
Washington reports the House approved 133 million dollars for the Post Office Department for the next fiscal year to avoid serious service curtailments. Postmaster General Summerfield had sought 149.5 million more, warning of possible Saturday mail halts. The Senate later advanced a larger Interior Department and Forest Service bill, with a conference to reconcile totals. President Eisenhower’s budget had proposed 15.189 million for the agencies.
