Dr Augie C Brown of Emory University and colleagues reported increased hair breakage and temporary or permanent hair loss from teased Afro styles. They noted natural Afros avoid these risks and advised gentler care, less teasing, frequent washing, and avoiding hot combs and harsh chemicals.
