Supreme Court rules seniority can edge religion in work
The Supreme Court holds employers need not alter a seniority system to accommodate religious Sabbatarian beliefs when it harms other workers. The decision reversed a lower court ruling that Trans World Airlines violated the Civil Rights Act by denying Saturday time off to Larry Heiss, a World Church of God member. The court says accommodations require clear congressional guidance and that many workers can be affected.
