Five FBI candidates Carter may pick from
President Jimmy Carter announced five finalists from a nine member committee that screened over 200 candidates for FBI director. The list includes William Lucas a Detroit sheriff and former FBI agent, Harrington Wood Jr a Chicago judge with past antiwar ties, Neil Welch an FBI veteran, John Van de Kamp LA County district attorney, and John Irwin a Massachusetts judge and ex counterintelligence officer. Carter and Attorney General Griffin Bell will interview the finalists as Senate confirmation looms.
