Israel Out Urged by Saudi Aide to UN Security Council
Saudi foreign minister Omar Sakkar warned at the United Nations that failure to withdraw Israel from occupied Arab territories could provoke a conflict beyond containment by superpowers. He urged the 15 nation council to act if Israelis refuse to withdraw, warning Arab governments may take non peaceful action. Malik of the Soviet Union criticized U.S. support for Israel and urged Israel to pull back from 1967 occupied territories, citing the need for UN led peace and warning against bypassing the UN Security Council. Israel’s Yosef Tekoah dismissed Malik’s remarks as lacking substance or vision.
