Carter backs annual IRS tax audits for presidents
Washington AP reports President Carter says annual full scale audits are a good idea for him in office and suggests the IRS review his returns every year. Vice President Mondale has not said if he wants the same. The audit, begun earlier this year, concerns Carter's 1975 return and may involve a $41,702 investment credit for machinery at the Plains peanut operation.

First Lady hears tale of torture in Brazilian jail
Two American missionaries Father Lawrence Rosebaugh and Thomas Capuano told Rosalynn Carter they were beaten and stripped in a Recife jail for three days while assisting the poor. Capuano said Carter will relay their message to her husband and push for an independent investigation, with Pernambuco authorities promising to look into the case.
