Hilltop road and drain plan eyed by city agency
The Signal Hill City Council redevelopment agency studies a $12 million system of hilltop roads and storm drains designed to use existing rights of way, limit grades, and spur development. Major arteries Cherry Avenue Hathaway Avenue and Temple Street would be widened or extended. new streets link Junipero Willow and 23rd Street. A backbone sewer system would follow the new routes, financed by tax increment funds with a citizen committee review.

Drive raises over eight thousand for MS research
The fundraiser campaign across 29 miles collected more than $8,200 for multiple sclerosis research. Kathy Bechle of Marshall Junior High led individuals with 252 dollars from Long Beach, earning a top prize bicycle. Wilson High student Bruce Balan placed second with 173.42 dollars, while Patty Mulkey of Gahr High placed third with 193.40 dollars. The Easy Riders club at Gahr High won the top club trophy with 783.30 dollars. Mayfair High earned the top school trophy with 1,525.31 dollars, followed by Millikan High at 1,485.99.
