VW to dismiss 600 as huge cuts begin
Volkswagen, Europe’s biggest automaker, announced plans to cut 600 Emden plant workers this month as a first step in a broad drive to cut costs. Daily Beetle output will drop to 290 while Golf production remains at 580 units. The move follows a 1974 loss of 343.4 million dollars and a plan to shed 25,000 workers by year end 1976.
