Santa Ana Visitor Murdered Near Riverside Lake

A Texas man visiting Santa Ana was found bludgeoned to death near Lake Mathews southeast of Riverside. The victim, identified as Nick Ingvertsen, 60, was reported missing from Santa Ana. Robbery is suspected, the wallet missing, and a search for the murder weapon, an ax, is under way.

Acid blast at Sayreville plant sends hundreds fleeing

A sulfuric acid vat exploded at the Wilson Organic Chemicals plant in Sayreville New Jersey Tuesday night. Hundreds of residents fled their homes to escape fumes. Two people were hospitalized and about twenty more treated at a disaster control HQ set up at Sayreville High School by Civil Defense.

Los Angeles Area Faces 10th Straight Cost Rise in June

The Los Angeles Long Beach consumer price index reached 121.0 in June, a 0.2 percent rise and the tenth consecutive monthly increase. Nationally, prices climbed 0.5 percent. Food costs led gains with bread up 2 cents per pound, meats and produce higher, while auto and tire prices fell. Transportation and apparel declined, medical and personal care rose slightly, with no change in reading material and recreation.

Dodgers Definite Move From Brooklyn to Los Angeles in 1958

Hobbs police pursue a new theory in the double slaying near Hobbs and Carlsbad. Truck driver J. D. Cantrell, 27, of Carlsbad, helped the two women after a flat tire. Panicky Woman Killed in Leap on Bayshore Freeway

Ninth Nevada nuclear test shocks observers at dawn

The ninth shot in the Nevada series blasted at 4 50 am lifting a blue purple flash and a mushroom cloud. Civil defense troops and 18 scientists in underground shelters reported no injuries while foreign observers from nine nations watched the blast from up to 13 miles away. The test, roughly 10 000 tons of TNT, produced a stinging dust cloud and a thunderlike crack across trenches and dugouts.

HONOLULU Navy reports a Neptune patrol bomber from Patrol Squadron 28 exploded over the Pacific Tuesday, killing all 10 aboard. Divers recovered four bodies as the plane, on a four hour mission near Barbers Point, crashed 300 yards off the coast in 20 feet of water. Names to be released after next of kin notification.
