The AFL-CIO endorsed George McGovern’s tax reform plan, stating that a family of four earning $10,000 from wages would pay far more tax than the same amount from investments. The federation urged ending “legalized fraud” in the tax system, calling to abolish the capital gains tax and arguing for tax equity between wage and investment income.
