Feuer contempt case taints state inspectors order

Maer Feuer a chicken packer was found in contempt of a 1970 order to stop calling state inspectors Hitler's Gestapo and to not process chickens unless inspectors are present. Superior Court Judge Robert A. Werke imposed more than three years probation and a $500 fine. The order also barred Feuer from unsanitary processing and from disrupting Department of Agriculture inspectors. Shirley Marlin of Vancouver recovered a $4 000 windfall after a jewel was found inside a box bought at Salvation Army thrift store and later returned to the jeweler who purchased it for $3.00. IRS collections included a penny tax case and a 1952 refund later confirmed by Senator Packwood. A motion shows Magieton faces fame with unlisted phone and a rise in public attention. A Houdini act in London ends with rescue by fire brigade after escape attempt amid lions and a liger.

Connally accused of blackmail in Democrats for Nixon bid

Washington dispatch reports Lawrence F. OBrien accusing John Connally of political blackmail to pressure Democrats to back Nixon. OBrien cites federal program leverage and unnamed officials, while Connally leads Democrats for Nixon. UAW Leads Labor Drive for McGovern

United Auto Workers President Leonard Woodcock says he and two AFL-CIO riders will head a labor campaign to rally rank and file for Senator George McGovern. The Labor campaign committee includes Jerry Worf of AFSCME and Floyd Smith of the International Machine and Aerospace Workers. Meany’s AFL-CIO Executive Council earlier voted 27 to 3 against endorsing either McGovern or Nixon. Smith supported McGovern. Watt backed neutrality.

First offices to handle nursing home complaints announced

Washington officials announced creation of the first offices to handle nursing home care complaints. Grants totaling 541,800 were awarded for projects in Idaho Michigan Pennsylvania South Carolina Wisconsin and the District of Columbia.

California to appeal Pay Board cut on state worker hikes

California leaders vow to appeal a federal Pay Board decision cutting nearly 118 million in planned state worker pay hikes. Governor Reagan and Gov. H. Reinecke say an appeal will be pursued after the board recommended trimming average increases from 7.9 percent to 7 percent.

PSA hijack victim kin receives $100,008 insurance payoff

In San Diego the family of slain PSA passenger Stanley Cauler received a $100,008 air travel insurance payment. Tele-Trip Co president Eugene R Brady said more claims from air piracy will be paid. Cauler, 66, was killed during a gun battle at San Francisco International Airport on July 5 as FBI agents stormed the jet. The hijackers and crew faced a ransom note of $109,000 before surrendering.
