Inmates seek MCC church rights in federal prisons
Eighteen inmates filed a class action asking a federal court to allow the Metropolitan Community Church to conduct religious services and counseling in federal prisons. They name Attorney General Griffin Bell and Bureau of Prisons officials, arguing the bureau’s policy of disallowing MCC services constitutes cruel and unusual punishment. The suit cites a 1975 ruling on church access and notes no present danger to order.
