U.S. RSV program backs cars with safety tech
The Transportation Department funds two projects totaling 11.5 million to develop lightweight research safety vehicles. Calspan and Minicars build prototypes with radar-microprocessor systems, airbags, foam-filled bodies, run-flat tires, and advanced brakes. Testing begins next year with aims of higher fuel efficiency and lower emissions.
