California Supreme Court Refuses Rehearing For Pac Tel
The California Supreme Court denied Pacific Telegraphs bid for rehearing on a $143 million annual rate increase ordered by the State Public Utilities Commission. The court clarified that a roughly $70 million April 4 increase is not subject to refund now due to accounting theories tied to federal income tax. Pac Tel said it is disappointed and plans to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court where it expects reversal.
