Three Blazes Blacken 170 Acres in So Cal
Three brush fires scorched about 1170 acres in Southern California on Thursday with one small blaze still out of control today. A major fire near Beaumont burned about 160 acres before being contained by 70 firefighters, started by gunshots from unidentified shooters in Lambs Canyon. The inferno also burned four acres in Angeles National Forest, prompting a highway closure on CA 38. In Chatsworth, LA city and county crews quickly controlled another four acre blaze with undetermined cause.

26 Injured When Bus Skids and Overturns
A Greyhound bus from Chicago to Miami skidded on a rain slick highway near Macon Georgia and overturned into a field injuring 26 of 25 occupants. Two or three passengers were reported seriously hurt. The driver William Parks Dobbs of Chattanooga was uninjured.

In Stockholm a July Fourth event at the U.S. embassy drew about a thousand people including deserters from the U.S. armed forces. A group of 200 disrupted the proceedings shouting antiwar slogans, rushed the ropes, and led to seven arrests by Stockholm police. The disturbance lasted minutes before the program resumed with Ambassador William Heath and guest speaker Gunnar Helen.
