Schrunk Bribe Charge Dropped by Oregon Mayor Cleared in Bribery Case
PORTLAND Ore Thel from his denial under oath that a bribery charge against Portland Mayor Terry Schrunk had accepted a 3500 bribe from a Portland gambler in September 1955 was dropped. Oregon Attorney General Thornton said Schrunk was found innocent by a State Circuit Court jury after a 10 day trial on the perjury charge. The bribery count was dismissed and the perjury acquittal led to the case's end.

Jail Gunfire Kills Officer and Wounds Inmate in Lockup
In Chicago at the Central Detective Bureau lockup a 24 year old rookie officer Michael Lukaszewski was killed and inmate Lavern Jamieson died after grabbing the officer s gun during an arrest struggle.
