California State U Sacramento president backs tuition shift
The first Black president of a Western college, Dr. James Bond of California State University Sacramento, urged reassessing open admissions and higher student contributions to tuition. He warned education quality has declined in California and called for more alternatives to a bachelor’s degree while ensuring access for diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. He also argued reduced political influence on academia could follow from higher student financial responsibility.
