Sam Yorty opposes women on patrol cars in LA
Mayor Sam Yorty stated he does not favor sending female officers to patrol after violent criminals. He echoed a policeman who said he wants a partner who will help him, not someone to protect in a violent situation. The remarks followed a City Council directive for the police to develop a program to assign women to police cars, a plan Chief Edward M. Davis has resisted.
