State Senator John McCarthy of San Rafael has been divorced on grounds of extreme cruelty after a five minute hearing. Judge Joseph G. Wilson awarded Mrs Ursula McCarthy physical custody of seven children and joint legal custody for both parents. She also received the family home and a monthly alimony and child support totaling 2000 dollars.
The Navy acknowledges Capt. Richard Alexander was moved from command of the USS New Jersey after defending Lt. Cmdr. Marcus Arnheiter. Navy Secretary Ignatius says Alexander criticized his superiors and failed to present his case properly. Adm. Moorer notes Alexander did not brief him and questioned his judgment, leading to a transfer to assist the 1st Naval District.
Pope Paul VI hosted Ion Gheorghe Maurer the Romanian prime minister in a one hour audience at the Vatican. The meeting followed Maurer’s two day official visit to Italy and was attended by Romanian Foreign Minister Corneliu Manescu.

Los Angeles city attorney Annebergh urged the Harbor Commission to defer its right to rescind Keith Smith's $12 million World Trade Center contract on Terminal Island. The panel had ruled Smith failed to meet contract terms, while officials face grand jury indictments for bribery amid the case. The commission was to act on Annebergh's recommendation as the mayor announced staff changes and possible resignations.
Sacramento Assemblyman James A. Hayes proposes AB202 to require public meetings of city and county advisory bodies when public funds are used or staff are paid. The measure follows a Dec 3 column in the Independent Press Telegram noting Brown Act gaps for advisory agencies and urging public access to 17 million dollars in Los Angeles County advisory work annually.

The committee identified him as Ennises Dotson of Ballinger Tex and quoted him as saying I m against the Afro American fighting in Vietnam when his fight is right beside him in America. In my opinion we are only war puppets or white Americans You ll be treated no better when you return than ye were when you left
Miami police found a gangland couple shot to death after detectives traced a getaway boat used by the killers of a buxom playmate and her fiend. The case remains under investigation as authorities pursue leads to identify the suspects.
A speeding express derailed in a snowy Jura valley near Mesnay Arbois about 50 miles southeast of Dijon. Two baggage car workers died and 33 were injured, a dozen seriously, as two rear passenger cars overturned and the engine halted 10 yards from a ravine bridge. An alarm by mail clerks reportedly averted a wider catastrophe.
San Francisco report states Timothy Nicholson, 25, serving 1 to 10 years for the killing of his twin brother, lost his third parole appeal. The Adult Authority denied release again, with at least another year before eligibility. Nicholson linked to Pullman Rail and Cudahy families, convicted June 7, 1965, of a fatal Pasadena shooting where Mrs. Delores Castillo and two others were found slain.
