Mormons reaffirm ban on Negroes as priests in church policy
A Dec 15 statement from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints reiterates a policy barring Negroes from priesthood roles while affirming civil rights, noting theology falls outside civil law and urging affected individuals to respect church doctrine. The note, for internal church leaders, cites President David O. McKay and counselors Hugh B Brown and N Eldon Tanner.
