Boulder sheriff's investigator injured in innertube crash
Kenneth Strawn, 49, of Boulder Colorado, chief investigator for the Boulder County Sheriff's office, was sliding in an innertube and struck a tree last weekend breaking 15 ribs and fracturing his collar bone. He remained in fair condition Monday.

Pierre Van Paassen noted author journalist and Unitarian minister died Monday at New York University Hospital after two long illnesses. He was 72 and famed for the 1939 bestseller Days of Our Years about Jews in Palestine. Born in the Netherlands he moved to Canada in 1914 and later worked for the Toronto Globe Atlanta Constitution New York Evening World and North American Newspaper Alliance. In 1943 he was ordained a Unitarian minister and became a U.S. citizen, a notable advocate for Jewish statehood.

A 19 year old student was shot from a passing car as he stood on a street across from a high school. Caldwell Whitehead Simms was killed by a single shot from the auto as it sped away. Police later said Owen Harris Reed, 17, surrendered with his attorney and was booked for murder. The shooting was described by police as gangland style murder.
