Long Beach Night Scene Features 1930s 40s Tunes and Modern Gigs
In Long Beach and Orange County venues Alex and Tony perform era tunes for an hour, with a female patron tipping $20 as she quietly recites lyrics. Hawaiian-born Alex Carrillos is a former teacher turned nightclub entertainer, while Detroit-born Tony plays drums from Cypress. They cover classics like Delilah and Lodi, inviting requests at the Paddock and other local spots, amid evolving appearances and period costumes. José Feliciano acts lead at Hop Louie's Latitude 20 in Torrance, with a family dinner show weekly. Various bars offer nightly dancing, piano and guitar acts, and a new Helen Dell album showcases organ performances with tibia-vox rolls and jazz variations.
