Hopes for early settlement dim as water rights dispute lingers
Belgrade reports Miguel Sambel a 50 year old U S Embassy employee was arrested December 12 for spreading false internal party news. He was among six arrested on the charge. In California, hopes to settle the North South water rights dispute before the 1938 budget session February 3 faded after a closed door meeting. An 18 member two house committee planned to reconvene February 5 to push a solution as Governor Knight and Assembly Speaker Luther Lincoln urged progress.
