Hanna questions Tonkin attack seriousness in Gulf visit
Rep Richard Hanna toured the destroyer Maddox at Long Beach and testified to unmistakable hostile fire during the 1964 Tonkin incident. He cited shell holes and said crew members did not doubt the attack. Sen Wayne Morse released a secret message he claimed provoked the assault. Kathryn Morton Godfrey, mother of Arthur Godfrey, died at 89 in Highland Park.
