AMA Attacks 2.5% Doctor Fee Cap in Phase 2 Rules
The American Medical Association urged that doctors face discrimination from the Price Commission's Phase 2 cap of 2.5 percent yearly fee increases. Dr. Max H. Parrott led the AMA in meetings at the White House with Donald Rumsfeld. The group warned rigid controls may harm care quality and that standardized schedules are hard to apply fairly. The Price Commission also required price lists for noninstitutional health services and set higher scrutiny for hospital fee boosts.

SEC seeks broader police role over securities industry
The SEC asked Congress for expanded power to approve or reject self regulatory rules, oversee transfer agents and depositories, and enforce broker dealer standards after a 1967 70 crisis and the 1960s market plunge. The study cites paper work chaos, off book cash, and calls for more SEC staff and capital to monitor the industry.
