Helicopter crashes into Quincy building killing two
A traffic helicopter for station WEEI emergency landed on the second floor roof of a three story brick building in Quincy and exploded. Two people were killed and four injured, including a baby who was treated and released. The pilot Richard Banks and reporter Henry Whitmore were aboard, along with shipyard worker William Amaral who survived. Witness Ned Foster described a dive and crash through the roof before the blast. The helicopter was owned by Omni Beechcraft of Danvers.

Youth, 17, slain in Chino CYA dormitory
A 17 year old Bernardino youth was murdered in his dorm at the California Youth Authority Youth Training School in Chino. Spokesman Art German said Ortiz died from seven stab wounds around 11 p.m. Monday and a weapon, part of upholstery shears, was found nearby. He noted the killing is the institution’s first murder and tied it to gang activity but offered no further details. Two youths are being held for questioning.
