GAO says Nixon should have paid for part of estate work
Government auditors urged that President Nixon personally cover some costs for federally financed work at his California and Florida homes. The GAO 95 page report criticizes officials for casual handling and notes Nixon, aides, Rebozo, Kalmbach, Ehrlichman and Haldeman were involved in ordering projects. It recommends restricting private presidential residences and funding a Washington residence for the vice president to cut security costs. Total private-property security spending exceeds 10 million dollars.

Ex-Gov Brown calls tax deduction unfair and two hundred thousand
Former Gov Edmund G Brown said the federal law allowing a 205000 tax break for donating his personal papers was not fair. He noted he claimed 105000 for 1967 to 1971 donations to the University of California and said the law should have been repealed. Brown compared the rule to Nixon’s large deduction and cited recent tightening.
