The Carnegie Foundation warned that general education at many U S colleges is a disaster with English and math often neglected while students chase narrow majors. It urged more focus on learning how to learn and work study programs, citing declines in required English math and foreign language courses from 1967 to 1971 and calling for better preparation for life beyond campus.
